KJYO-KCJR-8W2-KFRR "Stamp Run"
The Virginia Department of Aviation started an "Aviation Ambassadors" program to encourage aviation activities in the state of Virginia. It's been a pretty popular program and certainly gives us pilots an excuse to fly.
Anyway, I finally got my "passport" and started collecting "stamps" by visiting airports, museums, etc. as the rules specify. Today the weather was VMC and I decided to go collect a few more. As it happened, Bob called asking if I had any flying plans so we planned a flight that would allow us to get stamps neither of us had.
This video captures activation of a DC ADIZ flight plan. You'll notice ATC instruct us to "report exiting the ADIZ". When we do, you'll notice ATC instruct us to squawk VFR and cut us loose.
I used time compression in these videos to shorten them, so please don't think my flights are as jerky as they appear here. :)
This is also the debut of a few changes here at The Hangar. First, I've started including a single video format: MPEG4. Second, I've started using a single video per blog entry rather than high- and low-bandwidth versions of each and grouping them together as I have in the past. That allows the third major change: Podcasting. To view the video manually, you'll need to click the link following the blog entry. (To help identify the video link, keep in mind my videos are typically named using the convention "yymmdd departure-destination.mp4") Be sure to let me know what you think of all these changes.
