090322 Landing KTRI

Flight track: KJYO-KTRIThis is my landing at Tri-Cities Regional Airport (KTRI) to go to the Food City 500 NASCAR race at Bristol. The controller took us right over the track on the way in. See if you can spot the banner tow aircraft near the track.

Bristol is billed as the fastest half-mile in the world and this year's race had ~15 second laps (~120mph) and we enjoyed the race. However, I must admit there is something not quite right with a Toyota winning a NASCAR race as happened this year.

Regardless, the entire crew at the airport (controllers, handlers, FBO) were professional and made my experience there quite pleasant. They had a shutlle bus to and from the track which negated the need for a car rental. I contemplated the helicopter ride - until I saw the $500/head price tag. No, the $40 shuttle ride is quite good enough, thank you.

Speaking of nice service, Washington Center (ZDC) gave us direct KTRI shortly after getting to Casanova VOR. Nice.  :)
